There was nothing really wrong with the romance. It didn't really wow me and I was fully expecting something to happen with them (I'm a pro and spotting who the love interest will be. She actually grew into a surprisingly strong character. She also had to fight the darkness inside her turning her into something else. She began in the book feeling like a failure and she felt the same throughout a majority of the book, as if she might disappoint everyone. Other than that, there is a lot of great, interesting world-building here!Īs for Zephyr, she's a great main character and I did feel like she grew in this book.

I was able to figure them out eventually, but it wasn't very fun. Instead of info-dumping, we get the opposite are are dumped right into the book, getting strange words thrown at us as if we understand them. I had a lot of issues with this at first. There is a lot of world-building in this book. It doesn't help that there's a prophecy about her leading a war against the gods. It turns out, that Zephyr has a very dark ability and is the next Nyx. With the help of an old friend, she's able to escape into the mortal world, but she's still being hunted. She has no idea how she did it, she just wanted revenge for her sister's murder. Zephyr has been stuck in Tartarus for the past year for killing a god. I ended up finding an enjoyable read with lots of mythical elements! I knew it had something to do with mythology and that's it. I didn't really know much about this book, going into it. But how is she supposed to save everyone else when she can barely take care of herself? It seems that Zephyr might just be the Nyx, a dark goddess that is prophesied to shift the power balance: for hundreds of years the half-gods have lived in fear, and Zephyr is supposed to change that.

On the run from a punishment worse than death, an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend upends Zephyr’s world-and not only because her old friend has grown surprisingly, extremely hot. But all that changed when her sister was murdered-and Zephyr used a forbidden dark power to save herself from the same fate. Zephyr was ready for a future pretending to be a normal human instead of a half-god assassin. She’d rather watch reality TV than learn forty-seven ways to kill a man, and she pretty much sucks at wielding magic. Zephyr Mourning has never been very good at being a Harpy.

A teen who is half-god, half-human must own her power whether she likes it or not in this snappy, snarky novel with a serving of smoldering romance.
